Jeg er født i 1947 på Amager som den yngste af to piger. Min far var typograf, min mor damefrisør, men hjemmegående hele min barndom. Allerede som 12-13 årig opstod de første tanker om at skrive, og en af mine yndlingsbeskæftigelser var (og er stadig) at læse. Jeg gik ud af 9. klasse og kom i lære på et reklamebureau, ud fra en formodning om, at det ville være et spændende miljø, men jeg syntes, det var temmelig intetsigende og uddannede mig i stedet til fritidspædagog.
Flyttede sidst i tresserne i kollektiv og bevægede mig i det hele taget i de mere alternative kredse. Arbejdede et års tid på et værkstedsteater og var med i teatergruppen Rimfaxe i 1970/71.
Fødte min ældste søn i ’72 og begyndte på samme tid at sy tøj og var med til at åbne kollektivforretningen Hexeringen. Jeg uddannede mig samtidig til yogalærer og underviste i yoga i en årrække og fik i ’75 min yngste søn. Nogle af mine kunder i Hexeringen ville gerne selv kunne sy tøj i min stil, og det førte til, at jeg også begyndte at undervise i syning. En række arbejdsbeskrivelser til mine modeller lagde grunden til den første af de i alt seks sybøger, jeg fik udgivet fra 1977 til 1985 (de tre første i samarbejde med min daværende mand). I denne periode fungerede jeg også som kostumier på et par teaterforestillinger på Bellevue Teatret.
I 1987 blev jeg redaktør på Borgens Forlag og startede i 1997 Borgens Bogklub, som jeg stadig leder sideløbende med mit redaktørjob.
Jeg er gift på 14. år, og tilsammen har vi fem voksne børn.Jeg har altid vidst, at jeg først ville komme til at skrive i en moden alder, men at jeg skulle debutere i en alder af 57 år, havde jeg nu ikke forestillet mig. Mit arbejde fylder meget, og det ene år er gået med det andet. Pludselig gik det op for mig, at tiden var ved at løbe fra mig, og at jeg, hvis jeg overhovedet skulle skrive, måtte i gang. Jeg var nødt det til.
